Some of our favorite aerial photographs from Chicago, Salt Lake City, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Ireland, with where we flew and how high.

Rockin' Run Chicago

Downtown Chicago2018about 40 ft

This photo, taken from a drone in downtown Chicago in 2018 features the famous Chicago Theatre lit up in all of its beauty. Taken from a height of about 40 feet with a 4k resolution camera, this photo was taken during the Rock N' Roll Marathon, which spans the interior of the city of Chicago. The street, devoid of the cars that typically line each side with traffic has instead been replaced by a group of runners, heading towards the finish line. The bright lights of the Chicago Theatre shine down on the band that plays for the runners.

Parallels

Ireland2016about 100 ft

This photo, taken from a drone in Ireland in 2016 features the sunset behind a populated strip of land jutting out into the ocean. Taken from a height of about 100 feet with a 4k resolution camera, the population center is almost entirely obscured by the light that has dipped over the horizon. That obscuring of light allows the foreground of the ocean's parallel waves and the orange-blue of the sunset to dominate the landscape photo.

Looking West

Salt Lake City, Utah2018about 100 ft

This photo, taken from a drone in Utah in 2018 features the sunset behind the famous Rocky Mountains with Salt Lake City's suburbs in the foreground. Taken from a height of about 100 feet with a 4k resolution camera, the "god rays" in the clouds take the composition off of the page, which force the viewer to contemplate the blue sky contrasted with the purple mountains. The suburbs of Salt Lake City in the foreground provide a modern backdrop to the viewer, oblivious to the beauty that is right overhead.

Heart Today, Gone Tomorrow

Mexico2017about 40 ft

This photo, taken from a drone in Mexico in 2017 features a lone figure strolling along a well travelled white sands beach towards a heart etched into the sand. Taken from a height of about 40 feet with a 4k resolution camera, the stark difference between the ocean and the huts are broken up by a single heart traced into the sand between them. Recognizing that the tides from the sea in the lower right corner and the wind that sways the palm trees lining the beach will eventually erase this heart, it evokes the emotion of loss while retaining some form of permanence in time.
